How we review

By the Nightcap Reviews team · Updated

This is the process we use for full reviews. Sites we link to before a full review is finished are labelled that way on the guide pages and carry no score. This page explains the checks, so you can judge our work and use the same checklist on any site we haven't covered yet.

What we actually do

  1. Sign up like a normal user. We use a fresh email address and note what the site asks for before you can look around: email only, a confirmed email, a phone number or a card.
  2. Test the free tier. We note what you can genuinely do for free and where the paywall starts.
  3. Document the pricing. We record subscription prices, credit or token bundles, trial terms and whether anything renews automatically. If prices vary by country or change often, we say so rather than quote a number that could be out of date.
  4. Check the billing. We look for the billing descriptor (the name that appears on your statement), pre-ticked add-ons and auto-refill settings.
  5. Cancel. We go through the cancellation steps and note how many screens it takes, whether there's a working online option and whether we got a confirmation.
  6. Read the privacy policy. We check what data is collected, whether it's shared or sold, and whether you can delete your account and data.
  7. Look at safety tools. Profile verification, block and report features, moderation and age checks for performers or members.

How we score

When we publish a full review, the score is built from five weighted areas:

Review scoring weights
AreaWeightWhat earns points
Pricing transparency25%Clear prices before you pay, no surprise renewals, honest "free" claims
Cancellation20%An online cancel option, few steps, written confirmation
Privacy20%Minimal data collection, account and data deletion, discreet billing
Safety and moderation20%Verification, block and report tools, visible action on fake profiles
Value15%What you get for the money compared with similar sites

What we won't do

  • Publish reviews from people who don't exist, or make up star ratings and user numbers.
  • Use fake countdown timers, fake "someone near you" messages or pop-ups that pretend to be chats.
  • Sell a ranking. A site can't pay to be listed or to move up.
  • Host explicit images or clips. Our reviews are text only.

How affiliate links fit in

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you sign up or buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That's how the site pays for itself. It never decides whether a site is recommended: a site we'd tell a friend to avoid doesn't get listed, whatever it pays. See our affiliate disclosure for details.

Keeping things current

Prices, features and policies change. Once a site has been through these checks, its listing shows the date we last checked it. If you spot something out of date, please tell us and we'll recheck it.
